    Hi all,
As other members of this forum, I'm an old fan of the WoF(original) and this remake too. I love the works you made, but beside of that, I have some suggestions:
    1. The engine sound is boring, I replaced it with 'Round engine running slow' sound from http://avanimation.avsupport.com/Sound.htm and it works great, especially when you are flying.
    2. In the above URL, they got different sounds for different situations, like sound of other plane passing by, approaching, dive down and so on ... if these type of sounds can be intergrated into WoF2 ... wow it can simulate sounds of a real dogfight, like in old movie :)
    3. If the japanese pilot can say something, we can get more fun, and it make more sense that we are fighting with human, not a piece of graphics:
-in case he's being shot or some of his bullets catch the player
-in case jap plane is down, or our plane going down
-a japanese plane appears and the pilot say something, e.g: Banzai DaiNippon!!!
    4. I think the smoke trails is great, it recalls world war2 dogfight scenes in high altitudes. Why you don't add some theater like fog, in the fog mode every planes leave trails behind, this should be an interesting feature(but I know this issue requires lot of works).
    5. I understand that you want to keep the game rules simple and classic, but the levels are too simple in these days. Some expandable features can keep the game live long, like a level editor and some briefing content.
    6. A new play mode like the following can bring more fun for kids: In this mode, if the pilot can bail out in a parachute right into the carrier then he can save life and get a new airplane with a considerable amount of points, or for free(only in case his airplane is damaged badly, or out of gas ... a parachute icon appears and he can bail out - this simulate real situation when the control station gives bail out order for the pilot)
    7. In dogfighting, we can roll over and over and fire the gun as will. This makes dog fighting easy, and in reallife you can't do it because the gun may jam. So if the user fire while flying up or down in a too narrow angle, the gun and the rocket will jam. He must return to carrier to fix this.
    8. The downed plane can going down in 3D direction, I mean that the plane can fly down and "deep" into the screen(could it be?).

    Bug:
I found a bug, when you move too high, going fast or change direction, the plane will be stucked on the "ceiling" and cannot get down.

Thanks alot for the great works and for reading my post

Welcome on board Pacific. I have to admit that some of your ideas are very good and currently we are implementing two of them. Stay tuned!

Hi codo, it's nice to see the WoF development progress is so active,
This time I want to compare something between Triplane Turmoil 2 (3D) and WoF remake, please noted that these ideas is only my personal opinions:
Since I am also a fan of Triplane Turmoil 2(a commercial 3D remake of Triplane turmoil: Sopwith Camel DOS freeware), naturally I have some comparations between the two games.
Things in Triplane Turmoil 2 which are better than WoF remake:
    1. Better 3D scenes: good landscape, better graphics(tree, house etc...)
    2. More environment effects: cloudy, fog, semi ...
    3. Networked game and a universal point ladder, helps building community.
    4. Land battle makes player busy and bring some more fun. (Little soldiers run accross screen to your/enemy base, firing gun and throw grenades, they even deploy charge to your infrastructures, a doctor travels around bring "death" soldiers to his house to cure).
    5. One airbase can host multiple(up to 3) aircrafts(1 human, 2 computer), this mean we can have some cooperation.
    6. The local play mode is great, in that mode you have unlimited aircrafts to play against computer, limited by time or untill you get tired.
    7. Firing machine gun in TT2 is different, you have some rounds, and must wait to load them(can't do it when fly upside down). This also requires you to fire a near empty round out before diving into another target(but the gun never jam, just like in WoF).
    8. Bullets and flak may make the plane burst into pieces, or just drop some fragments. A pleasure to see.

    In WOF:
    1. Area for dog fighting: in TT2 the sky ceilling is too low, even with a sea level map, WoF remake has potential to become a better 2D dogfighting game.
    2. For bombing in TT2, since the screen is narrow, in many case we must drop bomb early into the target(not scroll in yet).
    3. In TT2 we must do vertical loops to turn direction, look sooo silly, we can't turn direction in low speed, in mountain etc... I hate this feature! WoF is better!
    4. In TT2, land battles are exciting at first, but they become REALLY annoying after a while. I can imagine the amount of work for this feature. In WoF we can get the same fun with only some small additions.
    5. TT2 based on a nonhistoric theater. WoF(remake) has better historical background than that, definitively. This can draw more player to WoF if you do it right.
    6. WoF has radar feature, in TT2 you only see a dot on the edge of the screen(change from lighter to thicker one) and you can open fire early before the enemy airplane appears!
    7. WoF has rocket, another great feature! In TT2 AI can drop bomb on you! Shame! Lol!
    8. In TT2 you can rarely strafe infantry, because "the low rate of fire at the time"(less fun).
    9. Landing in TT2 is extremely easy and look clumsy. For take off, you just hit the 'E' button and the machine flies(silly).
    10. In TT2 6 countries can participate in a battle, this can host multiple players, but brings chaos to the game play.
    11. Flak in TT2 has extreme power, you have little chance when flying high. TT2 has machine gun and flak cannon, more complicate but not better than WoF in any meaning.
    12. House in TT2 can get hit and burn, then the soldiers use water to put the fire off ... etc. etc. So much features require lot of work. WoF offer the same feeling without such twistles and bells. And who care for such little animations when you are fighting on the air???? -> may be that's the reason why they keep you flying so low lol

    So,
In compare with TT2, WoF team can add a new play mode for the game: so called "battle mode", in which you can simulate a (kind of) historic air battle, may be in Guadacanal, Lae, Port Moresby, Midway, Leyte Gulf, China ... etc. In this mode each side has an fixed amount of points(may depend on some historic conditions), and the point can be gained/deducted for each downed plane, destroyed building, gun, soldier etc. The game should be over when the point is depleted for a side. The japanese can carry "kamikaze" missions when their point get too low, this make the player slowing down his bombing progress to protect the carrier-and so the game does not need torpedoes feature any more :) The kamikaze plane cost only half the price of a normal plane, and when they hit the target they get those points back. In the original version of WoF, enemy plane fly straight to our carrier and attack, very hard to intercept such type of attack, infact, when enemy planes reach the target area, they normally make a circle and then attack.

A "capture the flag" like game can also be added into the battle mode-may be called "island hopping" mode. In that game, the two sides try to capture a serial of islands, when you eliminate all things on an island, your points will be used automatically to deploy some(or more) troops onto the island and claim it is yours. The minimum is one barrack and some troops(user can't deploy bunker to simplify AI bombardment). If you don't have the points, after a while the enemy will redeploy for free. If one side controls all the islands, the game will be over.

For more chalenge, you can add civilian targets, which side hit such targets will lost points to the other side.

A playable game for Japanese airforce, a rank system, a medal collection may be good for the game too (In a japanese attack mission, the pilot must fly long range missions so the time he can use on the target is limited - just like in history, and also defence missions in which vast amount of US planes approach his carrier).

When the player flies enough hours, or kills an enemy plane, destroy an island ... when he lands some more people like an army music band may be present to celebrate, some colored balloons ... I think this is pretty easy to implement.

The rocket firing procedure should be more chalenge, and so is the bomb run, may divide them into rounds, for example 4 rockets in a round, 5 bombs in a run, so you cannot make firework and bomb carpets anymore, the player must check active rocket round before diving, and when you switch the round, the remaining rockets of the old round is waste, so it makes the different between veteran and newbie pilot.

That's it, thanks for reading. This is not requirements, just some of my ideas(you allow us to post idea, right?) :)
(I know you don't have plenty of time)
And thank again for a great works!

That's pretty insightful stuff , thanks for posting your ideas. I just had a glance at Triplane Tumoil 2 , pretty fun game , hadn't heard of it before. My first impression is that's it's even more arcade then Wof , I like the lively scene - infantry firing their guns etc. On the other hand (and it's not a matter of selfishness) I don't like the plane behaviour in TT2, I had trouble predicting how the plane will act. It's REALLY simplistic in wof2 but I think we are on the right trail. Well since you spend quite a lot of time flying a plane in wof(:D) we could still improve it [don't ask when]. We had a few discussions on future improvements. We generally agree(as a team) that we would like to make naval units to occupy empty water areas which currently cover most of the levels' area[that would also include torpedoes for the plane]. We have a lot of other ideas but currently lack the time and resources to address them. Please remember that we still have university stuff and most of us full-time jobs. Since the game remains freeware we would really appreciate any donations you[as a community] make.

As I said before the above posts is only ideas, I understand that this is a hobby only product and it may take long long time to implement, may be years, or never :)
A way to make donation(beside money) to the implementation process may be useful, too. Is there any option like a open map/graphics editor and/or open source, for example?

Some ideas should be incorporated - no doubt about that, but like you said we have very limited resources.
    We consider two things:
    1. making a level editor,
    2. expanding the dev team by new volunteers.
    The perfect candidate should:
    - be open-minded, ambitious
    - perseverant and trustworthy
    - have at least some experience in: C# or Ogre or computer graphics 2D/3D.

The code however, for the time being, will remain closed.

We can also accept music contributions. If you have made a track which in your opinion would fit the game drop us a line. However we require some kind of music portfolio to verify the author. The last thing we want is to run into legal problems.
